How the song lyrics to ironic contain little or no irony?

Do you think the song should instead be called "unlucky"?

Oi Bug person, this isnt a joke you smarmy git. Its a question. I want to know if people find it ironic.

Absolutely! I have always agreed that she clearly doesn't know the definition of ironic.

Ya know, I had always said that about the song. Pretty song, dig the whole idea, but she doesnt talk about irony, just a whole lotta bad luck. What's so ironic about having a fly in your Chardonnay? I've had worse.
Also, has anyone else noticed how Alanis now seems to look like a suburban soccer mom? Hmmm, isnt it ironic that this is the same woman who screamed "Are you thinking of me while you f*** her?" Nah, thats not ironic either.
However, per Dictionary.com: The words ironic, irony, and ironically are sometimes used of events and circumstances that might better be described as simply "coincidental" or "improbable," in that they suggest no particular lessons about human vanity or folly. So.....maybe it is ironic that the first time a guy afraid of flying dies in a plane crash.

Overdone joke. That said, the joke itself is wrong. people like to elevate irony to a sort of level which it doesn't necessarily warrant. At it's core it is merely something being done without all the facts.

So, socratic irony is when the person asking questions knows full well what the answers are, but the responder thinks they're legitimate questions. Dramatic irony is when the audience knows full well what's going on and can appreciate the situation that the protagonist is setting him up for.

As such, you could probably argue either way on a lot of what alanis talks about, though mostly you're right and there isn't much irony in there.

No, not really. Just an irritating song. Still, it wasn't as bad as that 'Hello India' one she did where she was in the buff in the video.
