You need to take her to the doctor. That can be a serious problem in an infant. But... they will probably give you GripeWater. You just mix it in the bottles. Worked wonders for my 4 godsisters.

It might be time to try a new formula. My daughter did wonderfully on Enfamil A+ for 4 months. Out of the blue she has an irritation to it and gets diarrhea. I had to switch her to Similac Isomil (Soy) as recommend by the doctor for 5 days. Then she was to go back to the Enfamil A+. The soy immediately stopped the diarrhea and was fine for the 5 days. I put her back on the Enfamil A+ and the diarrhea started immediately. So I put her back on the soy and she then got constipated. So I gave her 50/50 of the two because I had cases of the Enfamil A+ and needed to use it. Her bowel movement are normal and very predicable now that she is drinking half of one and half of the other. She is now 7 months old and her doctor is fine with the mixture. Good luck, hope my situation helps you.

Are you 100% sure she's constipated? It takes babies a while to figure out the pushing needed for bowel movements, and they often grunt when they're not really constipated. It's common for babies to not go every day (my daughter used to go like 9 days in between BMs at that age!). If she's producing hard, pebble-like BMs, then that's constipation.

Is your baby on formula or breastmilk? It's very uncommon for a baby that young on breastmilk to get constipated. If she's on formula, then the iron in the formula could be constipating her. Talk to your pediatrician about what alternatives you have.

The throwing up part is definitely concerning though....you should probably talk to your pediatrician anyway.

You didn't say whether your daughter is breast of bottle fed. Either way it is very rare for a newborn to get constipated. Some babies are born with underdeveloped digestive systems and so it appears that they are really struggling to have a bowel movement. In reality they are fine and it will come out eventually. There may be a lot of grunting and wiggling involved. You can try moving her legs in a cycling motion to stimulate a bowel movement. If you are really concerned, talk to her doctor.

My pediatrician told me to mix about an ounce of prune juice with her milk. Check with your pediatrician before doing this, but my doctor told me to use baby suppositories. Like I said, check with your doc before doing that, because every doctor has their own remedies. Also, when my daughter was old enough for baby food, I gave her peaches and pears- the doctor's office said those were better for constipation than prunes. Is your baby on iron-fortified formula? That can cause constipation.

You could also try a little corn syrup mixed with water. Just a little though. The throwing up thing has me worried. Are you sure she's not rejecting her food? Maybe she's allergic to something. I would see a doctor about that because I've never heard of constipation making you throw up.

You may have to switch her formula. It could be due to a milk based formula. Talk to your doctor/pediatrician first but it may be a good idea to switch to a soya type formula especially if this is an ongoing thing. She should be going a few times a day at that age. Prune juice will help clear her out but you may need a suppository to help her get it out especially if she is impacted. Either way seek the advice of your pediatrician first.

An easy simple soultion that I use for my 5 month old give them 2 oz of water. It is better than the juices because if you give them to much watchout cuz there will be poop everywhere. My doc said it was safe and sometimes works better. Their digestive tracts can't handle the juice yet so if it was me I'd rather be safe than sorry.Good Luck:)

Give her just alittle bit of prune juice. They sell it in the juice section for babies. Only give her a couple of ounces at first and you can even dilute it. That will do the trick. If 2 ounces doesnt work, then try 3.

My daughter got constipated when she was 2 months and i would give her about half a spoonful of kayro in her morning bottle and her bedtime bottle and that help. She hasn't been constipated ever since.
