In a class societies like capitalism people become alienated and are unable to recognize there true potential.

For humanity's sake, its time to start exploring the possibilities for an alternative to capitalism.

Socialism is wrong for the following reasons:

A: By favouring state-control of the means of production via state-owned companies, it allows disproportionate power to trade-unions to hold the country to ransom as in many European countries including my own. What concessions some state-workers get in pay and conditions and then demanded by others and if not granted, the country is ground to a halt by strikes.

B: It favours tax and spend policies. Case in point: here in Ireland 20 years ago we had a Coalition of a centrist party and a Socialist party (Labour). They argued over how to bring down inflation which was 25%. Labour would not accept spending cuts so they insisted on tax-increases instead. Result: unemployment soared from 8% to 18%. They also borrowed heavily tripling the national debt. Socialists don't understand economics in the real world, and end up making things worse as a result.

C: Socialism is hostile to profit and believes in taxing the rich. The problem is that the rich pay a disproportionate amount of the tax-take. In my country the top 10% of earners pay 40% of the tax-take. In the 1980's when taxes were high, the rich sent their cash abroad. Now they are low so they are less inclined to do that than they were. Socialism, by this sort of politics of envy, scare the rich into sending their cash abroad, where health, education, infrastructure etc. will never see them.

D: Socialists are usually too soft on illegal-immigration. In my country 2 yrs ago we had a referendum on tightening up the citizenship laws and the left wing parties including Labour opposed it though 80% voted "Yes". Socialists tend to think in terms of being a worker as opposed to a national of a particular state and hence they tend to be less patriotic.

There.

I haven't seen an example of the theory you elude to, that of society being responsible for compassionate rehabilitation, nor the basic ideals of equal distribution of wealth and property actually working in practice in any socialist country.
The idea just reminds me of the borg of star trek. You will be assimilated.

The distribution has not been, and very likely never will be, equal in any socialist nation. History seems to show that socialism leads to a dictatorship, aristocracy, totalitarianism, etc.

Libertarian Socialism, seems to be more ideal in my opinion, but then I've said many times that Anarchy is an ideal political philosophy.... in theory. As it could only be in theory, since it could never be applied on a large scale since it requires common ideas and morals of the people which only tends to occur in small communal groups. Which makes me think of Switzerland and it's communal-like cantons. In practice, I still think a Republic is the most ideal form of government that has thus far been used by any nation of significant size (geographic/population).

From the words of Norman Thomas, one could guess that America is already well on it's way to being a socialist nation.

Most individuals that "have" do not have compassion for those that "have not". This is the truth no matter what political system is in place. The expression of compassion is wisdom personified, its the automatic result of an evolved society. Humanity has yet to evolve to the level where the majority will allow compassion and equality for all to be the status quo.
