I was watching Parent Control[a show on MTV] and this white girl said she likes her boys "tall, dark and handsome" [referring to her boyfriend]. But white people aren't dark. How could this be?

tall, dark, and handsome, is not literal. It's just a generalization for attraction of females to males. It's a stereotype. Dark can mean eyes, a tan, hair color, skin color, an outfit, well it's just a cliche stereotype.

There is someone for everyone.

You just have to be yourself and show that you are comfortable with yourself. This will come through. Develop your charm, your kindness, and focus on everlasting qualities like making sure you are always treating her special instead of putting all the time into sports, making money, video games, music, and other material things.

The phrase tall, dark, and handsome was used to describe caucasian males with dark features such as dark hair and dark eyes. This phrase has been used by white ladies for over 50 years. These ladies would have laughed out loud if other people thought it meant they wanted to be with a black. It was never meant to refer to blacks or other coloreds.

Um, the "orange" tans are fake-bakes.
I am Caucasian, and tan very easily--and tho I am Female, I assume males can do likewise.

Anyway-----I think the "dark" refers to eye/hair color. Or possibly, an olive complexion, like Italians or Greeks have.

Wow---this is SUCH a shallow subject, I regret answering!

She was probably referring to this hair color.
Some guys have very dark hair or even black.
Any guy can be tall and/or handsome.

Well dark could mean many things; dark hair, lightly tanned, or very tanned. She could be refering to hair color, or just using the phrase incorrectly.

When women say dark they don't mean black. they usually mean dark haired and olive toned (tanned). That doesn't exclude blacks, but it definitely doesn't mean black.

To answer your additional details: White men's tan only looks orange to you, just like asians only look yellow to non-asians. To white girls, white guys with a tan don't look orange, they look tan.

Why do the boy must be white? If a white girl dates a boy with dark skin is something matter?? Stop with the racial division.
And there are "white people" darker than other. For example Italians, they are white, but usually are darker than other white people like Scandinavians.

That usually refers to southern European men (Greek, Italian). Meaning usually an olive complexion. It's a "darker" skinned white person. Just like if you were to describe a black person as light skinned that doesn't mean they are white, they are just light skinned stupid.
