The way they open up. A moonroof is automatic with a button. a Sunroof gets pushed open by you.

A sunroof is just the glass roof that either pops open or slides back. A moonroof is either a panel that slides back or a sunroof with a panel below it that can block out the sun.

A moonroof is a hole in the roof with glass and a sunroof is the same except the glass can move back and forth.

my husband, a mechanic, says a sunroof pops up open a bit, whereas a moonroof slides open all the way.

I have them both. During the day I have a sun roof but when the sun goes down it turns into a moon roof.

My Chrystler300M window pops open, has a tinted window and a slider to block it totally out . The best of both worlds.
