Get her a gift certificate for a massage! I know I would love that.
If she's a coffee drinker, go to a local specialty coffee shop and have a basket made up.
If she likes to cook, get her a baking stone, or some of the new silicone bakeware. I don't advise the muffin "tins" though, they're too flimsy.
Or how about a pretty atomizer for perfume?

Get her the candles, if she likes them, then there's always a gift idea for her in the future. Sometimes typical is okay, when it's something we like, and we appreciate the thought very much.

I got my mom (step-mom) a gift from the glass place in the middle of the mall. You know the one where they make the blown glass objects?
My brother and I picked out one from each of us; a glass swan with the colored water in it-you know the barometer kind with the long neck, and a cross with Jesus on it because she is a Christian and we knew she would like it.

Hmm...Bath and Body Works seem to be pretty good this year - I've been getting a lot of stuff from there, but I love it.
Oh, and chocolate is always WONDERFUL, especially Gertrude Hawk and Russel Stover,

Have you spent time with her and know her taste? A spa or a manicure and pedicure gift certificate would be nice. At least that's what most women like.
