Whenever you please. Some people take them down the day after Christmas, many take them down by January 6th ( Epiphamy), some take them down after Fat Tuesday ( the day before Lent), and some people leave them up until a loved one returns for Christmas ( say, a military officer).
As for updating, when they start to look really bad- peeling paint, loose threads or bare spots. etc.- or are broken. Many people save ornaments from childhood or past generations, giving their tree a very nostalgic look.

Ever since I can remember, my mum took down the decorations on January 5th, (the Twelfth Day of Christmas). I have been doing the same since I left home many years ago. This year will be different though. I have lived 3000 kilometres away from my family for the past 3 Christmases, but my oldest son is moving here mid january so I am leaving the decorations up until he gets here so we can have a family Christmas with all our chilfren this year!
I usually buy some new decorations each year but only a few to make it look different

There are the 12 days of Christmas and that would mean the last day should be January 5th and this ties in with the " Feast of the Magi " which is January 6th. So, definitely take down all decorations by midnight of the 5th. But, unless you really believe in adhering literally to all the traditions of Christmas, why not keep the decorations for as long as you wish and enjoy them.

Most people take the decoration down the week after new year, what's usual is before the January 7. Unless you really want to "update" your decoration or find something that is worth as xmas decoration is good to renew everything every two or three years....

I took mine down last night. After spending a few hours taking off the lights on the tree. By the time i went to bed it was like 3am.
As long as you take them down before the end of the year. You don't need them up in the new year. You don't want to be thinking about Christmas again too soon.
I buy new decorations every few years. Always good to feel the new vibe and your kids would love it too.

we take ours down on new years. we've had the same decorations for a good while now, but i think they should be updated maybe every year or two.... dont change everything, but just a few things, to spice it up a little bit, and make it not so boring... try different decorations, like around the house and stuff
merry christmas!

I usually take mine down on New Years day and I update the decorations when I feel that I don't like something anymore.

When you feel like it. There is no good or bad luck involved in the timing. How about 12 days after Christmas? After that it starts getting a bit silly to have the decorations around.

I always wait until new years day. I dont have to work that day so its usually a good day to take it down and I still like to enjoy it after Christmas for a few more days. you should update your decorations when you feel you want to. no rule against it.
