A few years ago I had a BAD mouse infestation. After they were all gone I forgot I left some glue traps out. This week I started smelling the decomposing mouse smell and after digging found a dead mouse stuck to a glue trap under my dresser. My question is, about how long after a mouse dies does it take before you start to smell it decomposing? Could this mouse have died last year or the year before -or- does this mean I have mice again? (augh)

You have mice again, And they do stink bad, It takes about 2 days then in 3-4 it really kicks all in all for it to go away is 1 wk 10 days. Where there is 1 mouse there is 3 hiding.

A dead mouse will begin to smell within a few days and I think that after a year or more there would not be anything left to smell so you may have more mice this year.

-- Rat & Mouse Gazette: Postmortems: at 70°F or higher, decomposition within 48 hours ... under a dresser it's probably a bit cooler so I would guess maybe a week or two ..
http://www.rmca.org/Articles/postmortem.htm - I would spray Febreeze where you found the mouse ... I hate that dead mouse smell ... once I found one completely decomposed .. nothing but a skeleton left ...

Usually about 4 or 5 days

It all depends on how warm it is. In hot weather, it could take only a couple of days. In cold weather, it could take months depending on whether or not it froze.

Was he wearing a little jumper and white gloves? Walt might get a little miffed at you. And that Minnie can really be a pain if you tick her off!

A week or so.

If you keep having a mouse problem, go to the pound and see if they have any stray cat kittens. Garenteed mouse removal.

I dont think they stink too much because they are so small, but I would have to say if you didnt clean out from under your dresser it should be from then. just put out a new one to be safe, if you find one in a trap, replace it with another trap. Put out bait that they take back to their nest too.......
