My family goes one at a time and takes turns, it takes us forever, but it is fun to watch people open your presents that you gave them.
The stockings are always last, sometimes we forget them. Then have to go back and do them later.
We do get to open one on Christmas eve.

For hubbies family....Grandad (oldest male in the family) hands out the gifts, once everyone has one we get to open it. Then he just hadns them out until they are gone. But the last three years he calls out the name and me and my sis in law hand out the gifts. (to much family) we also started doing secret santa and so we have a lot less adult gifts. We seperate the kids and give them a huge bag to put presents in. They open all of the gifts and then they can play with ONE of them. (usually to eliminate double gift issues) I think that is fun.

My family....One of us girls (three girls total in the family) gets to hand out the gifts, that means you have to wait a while to open gifts, but you get picked by having coffee ready for the parents, and not waking them up all crazy like. But mom was the only one to hand out the stockings. She was pointed about it. (oh and the hander outer for the year always got the embarassing butt in the air pic while bent over picking up presents. always to be laughed at by the family.)

Our house....On Christmas morning, once the kids wake up, and hot chocolate is made then we settle into our favorite spots around the room. and it switches between me and hubby, we hand out the gifts from mom and dad, the away relatives, and then santa, and I GET TO HAND OUT THE STOCKINGS!!!

As for all the extended family locations we visit, it is usually as you come in you hand out your gifts to the people already there and you get your gifts right off. The kids love that.

Merry Christmas to everone.

We open most of our presents on Christmas eve. Each person takes a turn opening all of their presents going from youngest to oldest, instead of taking turns opening one at a time. We did that in the past but it did not work out as well. Then on Christmas morning we open a few more presents for the kids so that they can have some things from Santa Clause.

We usually open one present on Christmas eve, after church, etc.,Then on Christmas morning the youngest child leads the pack into the living room and we either open the presents one at a time, or each person gets a present and we open them simultaneously.

As a kid, I had 2 Christmases (divorced parents)
At my dads, on all kinds of family would come on Christmas Eve. Kids would pass out presents and we all open them as they come.
Then I would go to my moms, we did one gift on Christmas Eve, then on Christmas we do stockings first, then everyone goes and picks out their gifts and opens them all at once. Usually with the video camera going.
Now I am married and we are working out our own Christmas traditions (no kids!) and we have been making cookies together to bring family and neighbors on Christmas Eve (and eat some ourselves!) and then open gifts on Christmas

WHen we get up Christmas morning, the kids go through their stockings while we, the parents wake up, then they open their presents, youngest to oldest. It may take forever, but at least I get to see the expressions on each of my kids faces and get pictures.

We go from youngest to oldest, opening one person at a time. Then we go to the stockings. After doing that, Santa comes and we take pictures with the kids. Once he leaves, we eat, play around with our new "toys," talk and visit.

We usually have a "santa" that passes them all out to each person and then we all open at the same time.
