I have 2 children, 1 is 5 and 1 is 15 months. They usually have a tree for christmas but this year money is tight and there are really like none around our area. So, this year we arent gonna have a tree. I feel bad but nothing I can do, will it spoil christmas for my kids?

The five year old will remember it, but you and I know that Christmas is more than trees and gifts and stuff, it is about the spirit of the time of year. I think being together with your kids, and a roof over their head and something to eat outweighs having a tree, and having been there as a kid myself I thought some of those things were normal. So the less you make of it the better. I think your a great mom to prioritize what is important. There was one year we just got a stocking filled with fruit and a coconut and a color book and my brother and I thought that was fine. My mom called a church group once and they brought some food which made it a pretty good Christmas. Good luck and I hope things get better. Merry Christmas to you and keep thinking positive, things will get better it just takes time and some luck too.

You know there are more important thing's than a tree , But I know you much feel really bad, I know I would, a tree does mean a lot to children , and it is a traditional thing, everyone else has one so I know you are hopeing to be able to find one even if it is the last minute, and just a tiny little small tree will do. Or even decorate a plant you have and let the kids place some ornaments on that.. If it just not possible to get one , Then explain the situation to your 5 yr old and tell you you decided to do somehting different this year. Make a count down to Christmas Loop with colored construction paper, Write their names on some of the slips , draw santas, candy cane's etc on the different slips, if you have so school glue and some glitter ,, that will even be better.. I wish you all a Very Merry Christmas , Your children might be the lucky one's this year. and learn the true meaning of Christmas , So many have forgotten that .. Good Luck in your situation, Great Question

It wont spoil Christmas. Christmas isn't about the tree, it's just a nice tradition. But I suggest that when you do have more money coming through you buy a cheap fake tree, just incase money gets tight again!

Instead of the christmas tree, why not decorate parts of the house with the things that would usually go on the tree? This way you can still feel the Christmas cheer even without the tree. Your children may not notice the absence of a tree if there are decorations everywhere anyway!

Have a great Christmas

The 15 month old won't care, but the 5 year old might like a tree. Remember, you don't have to celebrate Christmas on Christmas day with such young kids. They don't really know what day Christmas comes on. So what you could do is wait until the day after Christmas when you will find trees being thrown out as trash. Take one of those trees and trim it with paper or popcorn or whatever you can find. Then the next day, make it Christmas at your house. Also, there are always good sales after Christmas, so that is when it is good to buy a few toys for your kids, if you can. Merry Christmas to you and your kids! I hope it works out for you.

Not having a tree is okay. Try to put it to the back of your head and don't stress over it. I know it is hard to not have a tree during Christmas, especially when you have children because you want them to be as happy as possible, right. Try not to let it bother you too much because worrying about it could spoil Christmas, but if you don't have a tree, try to put someting else on your mind. I really hope this helps you. Have a nice Christmas!

Don't feel bad! Of course the 5 yr old would like one but he/she will b excited with the gifts. If anything make a cutout of a tree n ornaments from colored paper, or even white paper then color it in. Tape it to the wall n put ur gifts under it. The kids will love a project like this. Ur doing the best u can and obviously u care very much, that's what the kids will remember thru out their life.

Merry Christmas!

No it will not spoil it for them, they will still find presents in the living room on x-mas day and that is all that will matter to them. I truely hope that next year if nothing else you can afford a small tabletop tree that you can set on a table and put gifts under that. I remember that is what an uncle of mine did and he had quite a bit of money but didn't want to go through the hassle of getting a big tree and the farm house that he and my father and their brothers grew up in wasn't that big anyway.

Definitely it is ok. why? Christmas is not about the "tree", it's about Jesus! You can tell your kids what Christmas really is. Here in the Philippines, most of my people are celebrating without a tree or food this Christmas ( it's beacause of the typhoon that has devastated our place). We're lucky to have our family around us, safe and complete! It's easy to explain to kids, tell them honestly why you can't afford buying.
Anyway, if you can't buy one why not make one? That would be also a nice activity for your kids. Use anything around your house. Not only it's money saving, it's also a fun activity for your family. ( you can check the net for any activities )

there is nothing wrong about not having a christmas tree, it's just a festive part of christmas. the real reason for the season is JESUS and they should be happy about that part of Christmas, and the gifts. that should be enough. i know that america has been so caught up in festivities...it's really just money-making and isn't necessary. i would recommend that next year you buy a fake tree. it not only saves money in the long run, it will save a tree. plus, there is a lot less risk of a fire hazard, and you don't have to worry about keeping it in water and pets drinking out of the tree water and getting sick.

have a merry christmas!

yeah it is ok, just tell them something to make them happy. Maybe you could have the 5 yr old build something to use as a tree. After Christmas go shopping for fake trees you can get a very nice one for about 75% off. If you get a fake one you will always have a tree.
