"Essays, Civil and Moral" Francis Bacon. He takes the saying "dot your i's and cross your t's" to another level, every sentence is a self-contained island of its own and not one word is wasted. It's scary and enlightening despite how long ago he wrote this. You can read it for free online.

What are the necessary conditions for a book to be a philosophical one? A moron wil tell you that Dan Brown is philosophical, but that's why they are morons.
Try "mind bending" the sort of stuff that actual professional philosophers think are "mind bending." Those would be the most commonly read philosophical texts that have been engaging mankind for centuries; these are the "mind benders" you are looking for. Try Plato's dialogues, or Aristotle's Metaphysics., Aquinas, Descartes, and so on. Sounds banal, but that's because people don't bother 'bending their minds' around them. And if you can't "mind bend" with these guys, then we have an answer as to why Sylvia Browne's book keep flying off the shelves.
