I have noticed that the vinyl flooring in my kitchen has yellowed some under throw rugs I have in there. Why did it do this and, more importantly, is there any way to remove the yellowing?

In reality the throw rugs have protected that part of the vinyl under them, however the other part not protected by the rugs have gradually changed color, you can go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy floor stripper and floor finish and use it over the whole vinyl floor, you will see the change..☺

The yellow is from the back of the area rug. The rug had a cheap rubberized back and the plasticizers have stained the vinyl floor. It is permanent and not covered by the vinyl warranty. If you still have the sales slip from the rugs you may have a slim chance of a claim from the rug manufacture. But not likely. There are 2 solutions; replace the floor, keep rugs in the same place for ever. Sorry.

The previous owners of my house had throw rugs down and the vinyl flooring was yellow where they were. It seems to have gone back to normal color now. So, I think that in time, if you leave the rugs off the floor, it will return to normal color.
