The best way to deal with an 11 year old boy who says a lot of bad words is to talk to him about it. Tell him that saying bad words hurts people's feelings and there is no reason to talk that way. If he keeps on saying them, he will get into a bad habit and it will be really hard to stop.

If it is un except able to you then use what ever kind of punishment that you have used in the past. Or have you ever punished him for anything. Boys do go through a stage where they like to swear. It doesn't make him a bad hid but he is deal with the pressures of being a kid. Sit and talk with him about it....

I hate to say this, but if you walk into any middle school in the USA, then you are going to find that almost every kid there says bad words. Most of them get it from their parents or from family, but others pick it up from their friends- or their friends dare them to say them and once they start, they don't feel like it is really a bad word. Spanking a kid is just going to prompt them to say bad words about YOU once they're out of your sight. Washing somebody's mouth out is bad for them as far as I know. The best thing that you can do in my opinion is sit down with them and give them a sort of... sad, emotional, talk about not using bad words...like "Will you please just promise me not to use bad words in public or anything?" or something to that effect... Adults acting sincere really surprises a preteen...seriously! I'm 13, I would know... Anyway, if they don't stop, then seek out a serious punishment such as taking away phone, video games, tv, and other privileges. If they don't like to read... then make him read! lol, and if he does, then make him read anyway! lol, anyway, I hope that helped... Besides, just tell him that talking to his family in a bad way is disrespectful. My mom would probably look like a wraith hunting me down if I said anything really bad... anyway, good night and good luck! Merry Christmas if that's your thing and Happy New Year's if it's not!

Is he mentally ill? This is a sincere question. Does he have stressful concerns, like at school? He should be taken to a counselor and a pediatrician might recommend a psychiatrist.
Suggesting that he might be ill doesn't mean he should not learn to control himself, but those routes that I suggested may help shed light on why he has this behavior, therefore offering solutions that will help the child control himself.

Depends. If you swear a lot, you had it coming. I suggest stopping. Kids learn by example.
If you don't, I would just let it ride. He probably thinks he's so cool, but if mom doesn't react it's not really that cool anymore.
If things get out of control, though, I would suggest grounding him for one day each time he swears. That'll get him to shut up quick.

When my daughter was that age I told her that I wasn't going to give her grief about using words that I use on occasion, as long as she understands that there are people who find those words offensive, so she should respect that when in public.
Nothing like permission to just suck the fun right out of things. She very rarely swears at home, doesn't do it at all in public.
I believe in choosing my battles and in the scheme of things, this isn't an important one for me.
