Sound quality is supposed to be very good for VOIP. The two problems are one, if your computer is of, or just not connected to the internet, you have no phone service. Second, if you call 911, you do not get your local dispatcher, you get your VOIP provider's operator, who then calls your local dispatcher. This delays emergency services, and can even cause confusion and non-response.

I haven't heard about globe7, but I can tell you about 2 other companies incase you are looking around. Don't bother with zingotel, they have horrible service. Right now I have VoIP through Comcast, the service is very good but they immediately sold my number to numerous telemarketers.

The phone will still work even when the computer is turned off. VoIP service comes with a box that you plug the phone into, although I don't think skype has anything like that, it isn't exactly like the other VoIP services. Some companies are working on the 911 service so if no service is available it should be soon.

I wrote a complete guide to Voip, and the link is below. Many phone cards use Voip technology, so you probably won't find any difference in quality.

if you look at the forums at dslreports.com, there are no negative reviews, just postive ones, I have to say I'm impressed, maybe I'll give up sunrocket for them!

the only thing i have heard is to not use Vonage b/c of their horrible customer service.

I had a friend use "packet 8" (Google it) and they liked it and it was like $20 a month I think.
