The main reasons as to why he is overrated
1.) He is not a quarterback, he is a running back who throws the ball.
2.) He has a cannon for an arm but couldnt hit water if he fell out of a boat
3.) His leadership sucks, as displayed with his salute for the Atlanta fans a few weeks ago
4.) His mental process is not right for a quarterback. Quarterbacks need to think pass first, run as last resort. He thinks run first, pass if I have to. By doing so he forces too many bad passes. As I always say, 300 yds passing is always more than 100 yards passing and 100 yds rushing :)
If you look at past 'scrambling' quarterbacks, they didnt become stars until they realized the pass first mentality. Steve Young and John Elway were prime examples. Both were very fast for their position and could use their legs. Elway never succeeded until he started passing and using his weapons, same with Young who realized he had Jerry Rice to pass the ball to.
Granted, Vick doenst have good Wide Recievers, but by doing what he is doing he's not going to attract any WRs to the Falcons via Free Agency. No WR is going to want to play for a team that doesnt pass. If Vick wants WRs who can catch he needs to do a better job of showing he's willing to throw.

I wouldn't say he is over-rated.
The problem is that he really is not a quarterback, at least in the "normal" sense of the word.
In this day, you have a "pocket passer," or the roll-out type of quarter back. These are the two styles that you can build an offense around. I suppose you can also include a scrambling quarter back, but this type is really one of the aforementioned styles with happy feet. Typically younger guys who's knees havnen't been banged up enough to learn to stay where they are supposed to. If you don't like this definition, take a look at Steve Young's career, Jeff Garcia, or a couple of other QB's who's names I can't remember at the moment.
Micheal Vick is an athlete. If you are going to stick him in the QB position, your offense is going to have to be as unusual as he is. You ever think of maybe a combination of "Run N Shoot," with a Half-Back Option?
Coaches teach proper footing and release with the roll out passer or the pocket passer. The way Vick throws the ball, you can't teach proper technique. Hence, he's never going to be a stong passer; at least in a conventional offense.
Michael Vick is like an industrial strength Antwaan Randle El. He can be under utilized, as I belive Antwaan is in Washington, or you can over utilize him which is what I think is happening in Atlanta.

Vick is overrated becasue...
1.the guy has the ability to get out of the pocket.
2. He has one of the strongest arms in the NFL.
He can do these things but he is often overlooked because his recievers stink. If the falcons bring in a WR over the off season Vick could be up their with Peyton.

Because he's a great scrambler and has a strong arm. They tend to overlook the fact he only completes about 50% of his passes. I think he's a great athlete, but I do agree that he's a bit overrated.

He's a better running back than qb. They could line him up at rb and he would rush over 1000 yards a year.

Because the NFL needs a great black quarterback, and they think he's it, when he's not. He's fast, and he can throw far, but you can throw it 350 yards for all I care, but if u can't throw a 5 yard slant, ur very overrated

Personally, I think it is because when he is on, he is AWESOME, and when he's not he sucks. He is either great or not.
