The lawyers have all the money. The average american does not.

because the average person is a moron. You want your elected official to atleast know how to read and write. People who are elected to office should be well educated. Although granted currently alot of people in office sound like morons but the they have a law degree and to pass the bar exam isn't easy. Therefore, they must know something or atleast we hope.

Because Lawyers are extremely opinionated and have lots of
money to wage a succesfull campaign.
They also know how to work a room full of jurors. Same as working a rally full of potential voters.
