I'm leaning towards an Evolution Sporty tricked like this-

Minus the super wide rear tire that would require a frame mod. Is it doable? Would it be economically feasable?

I definately have the means and know-how (except paint) to do 95% of the work myself.

A basket case is only good if you plan on taking a long time and getting your parts at swap meets. Some parts can be very expensive, otherwise. It would be easier to save the bank account if you start with an old runner instead. If you make your changes one at a time you can keep it on the road in between.

It depends on if you can a shop that can work with you or if you have the skills to do the work yourself.

The phrase "a good basket case project bike" is something of an oxymoron. Unless you know what you are doing (or have money to burn), it is better to start with something that isn't junk.

There ain't no such animal!! It ALWAYS costs 3 times as much and takes 4 times as long as it should, unless you're a professional with a shop. Keep dreamin', though--it's always good to have a dream.

Early 90's Sportsters with the EVO motor are simple to work on and can be had for fairly low prices.
