They are doing absolutely nothing to speed up the progress in Iraq to a reasonable rate and now they want to invest another $170 billion into this pointless war. This will go on forever. The only way to solve this conflict is to neutralize every threat to the Iraq government. And doing that...is sooo wildly farfetched that I can't even begin to describe it.

It is kind of like a New Year's plan for Iraq. The republican majority will decide upon it, before democrats take office on Jan. 7.

Super Trooper, wouldn't you rather they spend it on the weakened educational system in this country? Or perhaps to reform medicare or healthcare?

Not your decision. If congress votes it in then you will see how well the Democrats are serving you.
(I bow my head in shame for not knowing this.)
However your last statement is not so far fetched. It would cost money, but if the Army reserves and National Guard were entirely deployed to Iraq, there would be 500,000 or so troops in the desert. The country could be sealed off, nothing coming in or out, and the Army could basically go door to door confiscating all weapons and ordinance and capturing or killing all insurgents. With most of this out of the way a government could then easily be set up, even a complicated Democracy. Of course this would need a complete policy change, and we all know how set our leaders are on this. The Army NCO"s are the true grit, but we just get sent on those impossible missions so what do we know.

I understand where you are coming from but its not the Democrats that are doing this. Its the Republicans. See we lost the Iraq war but our government is still trying to add to their greed. America lost the war but they are still trying to take control over another country. They can't even control this country what makes people think that they can control another country? Now this government is going to spend more of American tax payer's money for what? To try to buy their way into another country. Our government don't care about our American Soldiers if so why are they still over there and some are still going back. Our American government starts so much crap with other countries that it is so pathetic. That's whats wrong with America now. This government system has to go. We do need help from the Democratic and get rid of this republican party. They are the one who is keeping this crap stirred up with others. That's why that the Republicans pushed the Democratic to the side, to take control. Well at least that the Democratic are for the American people. The Democratic aren't doing anything now because the Republicans are in control. In other words we are fighting a losing battle. Thanks to our American government

It depends. I suspect in true government fashion that this money will be spent on the wrong things or only a portion will go to deploying reservist.
The sad fact of this whole thing is that we started it, but are unwilling to finish it correctly. I see Republicans stating we need to stay the course but they cannot come up with a plan. I see Democrats blaming Republicans, but they too do not have a good plan. And all of this comes at a cost to both our pocket books and the troops who have to perform their jobs. The longer we stay the more it's going to cost. That's common sense. Do we need to stay? I say yes. What kind of a people are we if we invade a country and them leave it's people in civil war. Do I think this war is a mistake, yes, but should we hit and run? No. The Romans, Huns, and many other ancients were also good at invading civilizations by mistake or for self gain and then leaving them in shambles. What kind of people are we if we do the same? Have we evolved at all? People deserve the leaders they elect, which IMHO doesn't say a whole lot of good about us. Stand up people and make your leaders serve someone besides themselves.
We should spend the money, but start throwing politicians (not matter what flag they fly) out of office if they don't spend it properly

For my interests, this about much more than our current or near future national debt. This is more about the guarantee that my grandkids will not all be forced to wear Burkas. They are three beautiful little angels and even with the deterioration of this nation, I would prefer them to be able to have a future in a free democracy. I take the threat of Iran's proposed destruction of western society very literally.
As you are convinced this war is pointless, I won't expect you to have any regard for my opinion on this. Matters not though. The proof is all around us and burying our heads in the sand as we have done previously, is not an answer. The effort never was about Iraq in my opinion. It always was about establishing a forward base in the ME, a foothold in the middle of that mess so we could affect the internal workings of Iran, Syria and Lebanon (among others) without long time lags due to geographical location.
So, my answer is yes, I do agree. I also would like to see a much more aggressive effort.

Unfortunately we don't get a say. What could we have done to better the lives of Americans if we had spent 450 billion here instead of a war in Iraq? And they wonder why they lost the last election. I wonder if they will wonder why they will lose the next Presidential election? All this money spent on hatred and fear.

Does anyone ever agree on what the gov't spends our money on? Does it ever matter?
We have people HERE who need hospitalization, insurance, jobs, housing, schools, food, etc.
But, why do it for Americans when it make GWB feel manly to spend it on a bunch of foreigners who would kill us as soon as look at us and they have to have constant security around everything because of the psychos who are chomping at the bit to go in and blow up everything we're giving them.
What do you think they'll do as soon as we pull out? They're going to destroy what's left of everything we've put there. It's a complete waste of time, money and life.
