I have my midterm tomorrow [insert exhausted sarcastic cheer here] and I was wondering, how to calm my nerves before it?

It is not a million questions, but exams scare me very much!

What can I do to prepare myself mentally for it? I can study, I know, but I have an anxiety problem.

:[
please help.

Make sure you get a good night's sleep tonight. That is one of the best things you can do. Have a decent breakfast in the morning. Do some deep breathing exercises or other relaxation activity tomorrow - do a search and you will get ideas.

For some reason I am having difficulty connecting to many links tonight so I cannot give you the specific sites, but do a search for "math test anxiety" and "math study skills" and you will find some good links.

Best of luck tomorrow.

Anxiety before exams is common, yet can be disabling. In fact, when a person is anxious, the brain processes for thinking are temporarily impaired, so it can become a vicious cycle.

Don't fight the anxiety; instead, acknowledge it, tell yourself that the anxiety is just a feeling. Don't give it further power by fueling it (which resisting the feeling will do). I know it is counter-intuitive, but that way the anxiety doesn't ramp up.

Then, use whatever techniques you can use that work for you in other situations (though certain ones will not be possible due to the testing environment). Deep breathing, a few seconds taken to refocus, going on to the questions that are easiest first, taking a sip of water, imagery of a calm situation, whatever works.

Just don't fear your fear. A little anxiety, like a little fear, is often useful if it causes us to take action (which is probably why we are still this way), but when you are actually taking the test, the calmer you can make yourself, the better you will be able to think and perform.

At my school we had a session on anxiety, depression, and nervousness. You're building up the exam as though it is a physical threat to you. Before or during the exam, you can put your hand on your forehead, that "cools" down your brain and helps you to think. Also try to think of a happy thought to make the exam not be such a big deal. Hope this helps and good luck!!

Relax. Nerves just let you know that your about to undertake something important. You should congratulate yourself because you instinctively understand the importance of math and your nerves are helping you get pumped. Enjoy it! It's a natural high and it will help you ace that exam!

Okay, take a deep breath. First thing to do is to make sure you know the material. Second is make sure you have a good breakfast, it helps calm you down. Third is when you're taking the test, think of only one thing: breathing in and out. say in your mind in out in out, it helps relax yourself. Now last, is eat some chocolate! It was proven to lower your anxiousness and nervousness. (just don't think of the calories!)

Hope this helps!
Have a good day.

I know what you're feeling, I had my midterm on Monday, and I was so nervous too. Take it easy, if you're ready enough to take it you'll have no problem, just relax and think that soon you'll be partying during your Xmas holidays, tomorrow will pass. relaxxx

And good luck, I'm sure you'll do fine!!!!!!!!!!!

I was also like you. Try eating yoghurt. It helps so much. And another important thing is not to talk with your friends before the exams. When I was talking with my friends I was getting low marks, and when I stopped doing this, my grades increased enourmously.

well, obviously study! also, take deep breaths. i find that taking a walk for 20 minutes usually helps me.

last of all, get plenty of sleep. just because you spent the whole night studying, doesn't mean you'll get an A if you're sleepy!

GOOD LUCK!
