Dogs for sure! Fewer people are allergic to them, they are loyal and non-judgemental, give unconditional love, like to take walks and exercise with you.
Cats cop attitudes, but can use litter box, however that totally STINKS up the house! Cat owners are the only ones who don't smell it!

I love em both but dogs will be more apt to make themselves available for effection. Ole cat gives ya effection when they want to but they can be funny as heck when they play.
I vote DOG for the single pet.
