I have to eliminate Ethel, because she was just there to be a "straight-man" albeit a good one. Fred had great one-liners but couldn't have carried the show. Ricky was a great wild card as the first real ethnic character on television and was amazing when he broke into Spanish or uncovered one of Lucy's plots....................but
Lets be honest, the show is named I Love Lucy! for a great reason. To this day I consider her one of the 3 or 4 funniest performers in history male or female. She carried the show and had a great supporting cast to help her. 50 years later, it's still funny and I'm only 36 and grew up on reruns.
How many shows have you watched where years later, you can recall verbatim, so many single scenes and lines? Seinfeld is like that too and is a modern classic.
