If you are checking to see if someone has a local arrest record, some sheriff offices and police departments have an on-line arrest inquiry such as Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) in Tampa, Florida. The people who show up on this website have been arrested and booked and have not necessarily been convicted of a crime, so make sure that you understand the type of information you are seeing online.

if you are looking for a website that provides criminal background history (arrests, arrest dates, charges, etc.) you have to pay for it. there are no free sites that offer that kind of information
