You're going to want to check the link below, and stay away from anything in at least the top 200 for something unusual. I'd stay away from the top 1000 altogether, if you were really serious about no one having the name.
My favorite list of unique names on the internet is the second link, which lists names that aren't in the top 1000 or haven't been in a long time. Your mom's taste is probably different from mine, so I won't list my favorites, but looking at these two resources will get you on the right track. Good luck!

You have but to hark back to the founders of this country to find names like Faith, Hope, Charity, Forbearance, Fortitude, Chastity, Patience, Prudence. Cotton Mather's father was named Increase. I think Cotton was Increase's wife's surname and did not indicate an overwhelming interest in the plant of the same name. Naming kids for desired virtues is kind of nice though I will never understand why Sonny and Cher named their poor daughter Chastity in the era of "If it feels good, do it." I doubt that the Puritan ancestors would much care for Passion and Lust as names. I could imagine a particularly iconoclastic family naming their kids after the seven deadly sins. . Lust (Latin, Luxuria) Gluttony (Latin, Gula) Greed aka Avarice (Latin, Aritia) Sloth (Latin, Acedia) Wrath aka Anger (Latin, Ira) Envy (Latin, Invidia) Pride (Latin, Superbia) I bet they would have great family reunions.

For a girl: Arianna (or Arianne) with the nickname of Ari. I've only heard it from the soap opera actress Arianne Zucker. The names mean "most pure." :)
Also, for a boy: Leonard (or Leonardo), with the nickname of Leo. It means "powerful lion."
Hope that helps!
