When you register to vote, you have the option to choose a party to register with. If you just plan on voting straight party line, then don't bother registering to vote.

Hopefully neither.
There is more than just Dem. or Rep. parties.
You can always be a non-conformist and just register independent.
Though that's not really that non-conformist is it?
Anyway, as mentioned in other posts, I think the political compass thing is good for a basic rough idea, though I believe it should probably be more comprehensive.
This link gives a brief description of what each party stands for, submitted by the party I believe, and a link to their website, if applicable:
http://www.vote-smart.org/resource_political_resources.php?category=Political%20Parties
You can check the parties websites for what they say they stand for, which is typically a very broad generalization which I think tends to have alot of marketing terms that don't really say anything specific, but maybe that just me.

Its definitely particularly ridiculous. help for NSA wiretapping has turn flopped approximately 20% between republicans and democrats in basic terms because of the fact now a democrat is in place of work. additionally, once you learn Obama's regulations, they are not lots diverse from Bush. He has extra extra debt than any president in US historic previous, drone strike costs have extra beneficial than doubled, and his regulations are particularly precise-wing and something yet fiscally in charge and present day. the pupil very own loan activity fee is in all risk going to double, and meanwhile he's authorizing militia action in Syria and investment further and extra to the militia. the only real coverage i'm able to think of of that may not comparable to something Bush would have accomplished is Obamacare, yet even then it replaced into based off of Romneycare. Oh yeah, and generally its the lobbyists that rapidly write the guidelines. some politicians do no longer even look at their very own subsidized rules.

I'm 57 and I'm not sure myself. In the elections we're only given a choice of certain people to vote for. I just listen to what the people stand for and what their past experience is, and try to judge from that if I want this person to represent me. Being a republican or democrat is not an either or choice, there are a lot of gray areas. Just make the wisest choice you can. Good luck.

Well on of the best things is don't think as just parties. Look at Conservatives, Liberals, and moderates.
Some of the things Conservatives stand for: Moral values, Less government, pro life, less taxes the extremist are the far right
Liberals stand for : Pro-choice, bigger government, social programs, higher taxes, class warfare. the extremist are the far left
Moderates will be in between and is where most of the people stand. They don't won't to be far right or far left.

It is better to focus on the issues and stances of the people who are running. Simply painting yourself one color will allow your party to do whatever they please. There is a good chance that you agree with neither since they are both pretty crooked.

are you for or against the death penalty? If you're for, chances are you're republican. That is the simple and most blind answer for that question, but it could lead to other liberal vs. conservative issues.
