I'm 24 and a college graduate, and I STILL don't know what I want to be in life. I graduated with a degree in Special Education because I love kids and have a heart for people with disabilities, but now I can't see myself confined to a classroom, so I have to do some more figuring. I will tell you that the only time my friends influenced what I wanted to be in life was a month in 4th grade when I wanted to be a marine biologist because my friend did. Now I'm thinking of trying something with photography. People have told me I'm somewhat talented (not trying to sound stuck up or anything--just recognizing one of the few talents I do have). Sorry this is so long.

I am a Nazi.
I enjoy wearing black military uniforms, my interests are irrationally hating minorities and beating people up, all my friends are violent thugs.
I saw a documentary on the history channel and thought the life style was appealing.

What I love (art, music) is what I want to be and do. Though I am a dreamer in that sense, my practical side doesn't allow me to starve! I have to pay the mortgage & that's hard to do as a starving artist or struggling musician. So I have a lucrative job which I do to earn money & I do the things I love on my days off. My wish however is that one day I could earn enough money doing what I love to quit my "regular" unfulfilling uncreative basically hellish job.

I don't think you actually "decide". Like animals we repeat what is rewarding and avoid what is disturbing and like animals, sometimes others do the rewarding and punishing especially during the formative years e.g parents, teachers, role models etc.
