B) camel
Although, to expand, Arab merchants (in North Africa at least) had horses and pack cattle first. They traded all the way across the Sahara Desert without the use of camels. The big benefit of the camel, which came from Arabia and was domesticated fairly late, was that it could go long periods without water and thus the traders could explore new trade routes away from oases.
So, tell your teacher that he should be more specific in his questions, because horses were the FIRST animals that allowed traders to travel over the harsh land routes of the Sahara desert, but camels really expanded on this trade, and I'm sure that is what he meant to ask.
