The best advice I can give you is in regards to record keeping and day-to-day operations. Set up your bookeeping ahead of time.
-Figure out how you will track your inventory, orders, etc. and set it up ahead of time.
-Decide on what forms of payment you will accept and make sure that is clearly stated.
-If you are doing it online, figure out how you want to keep up with your customer's accounts and do it from the very beginning.
-Organize a database for your suppliers. Name, address, phone, contact person, what they supply, how much it costs, how long to get it after you order it, etc.

All of this will take time at first, but save you so much time later. I use Quicken for almost everything with my stuff, and Microsoft Excel for the rest. You have to decide what works for you and go with it!

Shouldn't you have the soap recipe before the business? The best tips will come from the SBA... check their website (link below). As for the soap recipes, check the internet and library books.

Herbs add zesty fragrance and speckles of color to your homemade soaps. Coarsely dried or fine-ground herbs are most successfully in soap when they are added after saponification, using the rebatching method, because they tend to fade in color when added to the fat in cold process soaps.

Finely powdered herbs should be added gradually in 1/2 teaspoon increments until you reach your desired color. If you are planning to add herbs to your soaps for the first time, it is always best to use a limited amount in order for you and your family to test them out for skin irritations.

Coarsely-chopped herbs or oatmeal should always be limited to 2 tablespoons for each batch of soap, as they can produce an extremely coarse bar of soap.

Many of the following herbs are great additions to soap, and you may already find many of them in your kitchen cabinet. To achieve the following colors and fragrances just add:

# Browns/tans - coffee, cloves
# Fresh fruit scent - benzoin powder
# Greens - parsley, alfalfa or dill
# Brown spicy specks - cinnamon
# Yellows - turmeric
# Rose hints - rose petals
# Orange - annatto seed, marigold
# Citrus scent - orange peel
# Pink/orange - paprika
# Dark green - kelp
# Sandy exfoliating specks - oatmeal
# Relaxing and exfoliating - chamomile

If you haven't yet contacted a good CPA, get one. Next get a good attorney. They will help you setup the corporate entity and then make sure that you are protected from any liability from the business. Good luck.
