Originally, gay men who were 'top' wore an earring in their left ear and gay men who were 'bottom' wore an earring in their right ear. Later, a man with an earring in his left ear was presumed to be straight and a man with an earring in his right ear was presumed to be gay. Now, it just means someone likes to wear an earring.

this is a age old and boring question. it dosent materr now days were you wear the ear ring anymore. this came up we do belive in the early or lower 90s. if you wore it in the left ear it meant you were totally gay. in the right ear a real ladies man. this thing dyed a long time ago--

No, I really don't think so. Maybe 20 years ago but I've been out with guys that had both ears pierced & they weren't gay, & a friend of mine who is gay has his left ear pierced

There was some stereotype years ago, but with how common piercings have become i the stereotype has gone out the window.
