The economy in the Philippines isn't good. People go abroad to work (or to find a husband, whatever) so they can make money and provide for their families back home.

Many Filipinos would like to provide a better life for their families. Since, the level of underemployment and unemployment in the Philippines is low, many opt to work overseas to get better compensation. Not all who are working abroad are looking for foreign husbands, cause some who are already there have their own families here in the Philippines. But those who belong in the mid-upper to upper classes in the Philippines still prefer to live in the Philippines since they already are enjoying a very good life in the country (like having their own helpers, drivers etc. who does everything for them like: cooking, cleaning the house, driving, gardening, laundrying) etc. The people who are part of the upper classes of society in the Philippines would usually pursue college or post graduate studies abroad...but after that, they go back home and work and live in the Philippines. Usually, those who are satisfied with their lives (economic situation) in the Philippines will prefer to stay in the Philippines. But those who would like to try the "greener pastures" will try their like outside the country.

Few centuries ago, Chinese people go out of China to look for work. They have worked as a laborer in Canada and the US. The Canadian Railroad has been credited to these laborers. Look at them now, the fastest growing economy in the world. Same true holds for people of Korea and India - look at them now.

World economies are like 2 siphons where water will eventually find its own level. Don't be surprised if the Philippine Economy WILL BE one of the best in the region in say, 10 years?

The Filipino Diaspora is quite similar to the one of the Jews in Israel. As a graduate of political science in Peyups I'd normally use to blame our leaving the country to poor economy and peace & order situation, mismanagement of human capital, political instability or terrible natural calamities. Now I have come to see the problem as deeply rooted in our insincere relationship with the One we call God. We Filipinos are unique in Asia because we believe in the Almighty God (YHWH in Hebrew), the same God of Israel and yet we fail to seek with all our hearts who He really is and what pleases Him. The Filipinos including the leaders have been practicing various forms of IDOLATRY, without knowing that this practice has been an abomination to our God and is the same fundamental cause of the Jewish and Filipino diaspora. Certainly no amount of economic nor political wit can ever solve the phenomenon international critics fondly dub as the "Philippine Puzzle." Unless we all calm down, scrutinize who/what we really worship and start seeking the Way, the Truth and the Life, our God will not show mercy and grace unto our corrupted nation. This is purely an internal problem, you see.

Because you earn more abroad. Foreign employers appreciates your intelligence and hardwork. Most Philippine companies are into the "compadre system"/"palakasan", which is NOT GOOD.

And yes, I am tired of Metro Manila traffic :-)

NOT ALL filipina want a foreign husband. I DONT! ;-)

Its not that there is a lack of Pinoys. It has more to do with economics. A Pinay wants a better life not just for her or her family back in the Philippines, she wants a future for her children, and their children.

Most people i personally know, it's all because of money. Professionals here don't earn much compared to professionals working abroad (IT/nurses/cpa, etc). Not so much opportunity in the Philippines.

With those who arent professionals and couldn't even afford to eat 3x a day, they leave their families to take care of foreign families. it's just so sacrificial come to think of it.

Finding a foreign spouse--- those who want to escape poverty will do that...
