That's why they made itunes. For folks who like one or two songs and don't want to buy a whole CD. It is perfectly legal to download songs from itunes if you pay. And this man probably thought you meant downloading without paying. But if you said you would pay than forget him.

Downloading songs is LEGAL if you're PAYING an AUTHORIZED company (like ITunes) to get a copy. They allow this because the company has a contract with the artist/group and agrees to pay them a percentage of the profits for each on their songs that is downloaded. It's the same as when a record company produces a Record/Tape/CD album form the artist/group, they pay a percentage of the profits to them for each album sold.

Downloading songs is ILLEGAL if you are NOT PAYING or if your paying a NON-AUTHORIZED company. Copying songs from a P2P (Peer-to-Peer) file sharing site (like IMesh, Grokster, and Napster [Before all the lawsuits]) or unauthorized company site (usually foreign from outside the country) circumvent copyright laws and violate piracy laws because none of the money goes to the artist/group that created it. Additional anti-terror legislation passed after 9-11-2001 also target music piracy (just as they target certain charity organizations), since the profits may be going to terrorist organizations or foreign govenrments that own/sponsor the companies.

Before 9-11 many of the non-celebrities that were against song downloads thought that it was unfair to the artists and groups because it made it impossible to earn a living from their creations and performances. This not only affected existing artists and groups, but also future aspiring musicians that were hoping to have a music career.

After 9-11 people are against song downloads, because (like I said earlier) it could be possible that the profits from piracy may go to terrorist organizations and hostile countries. That's the most likely reason why this guy threatened to report you. If your previous question had mentioned that you were paying ITunes to download music, he probably wouldn't have said anything.

This is also why people are against downloading pirated movies from the internet.

There is still some debate as to the legality of downloaded songs, but if you buy them from a legitimate site such as itunes, you should be covered for listening to it on your computer. It gets muddy as to what rights you have to the music, as you cannot resell the rights you purchased.
Therefore, you are better off getting a CD, ripping to digital file, cause you could theoretically delete the digital file and still sell the CD and be legally ok. But again, it is a muddy question with no sure answer.

Girl, he probably looked at your past posts.

Limewire is free. You are downloading songs illegally. He can and should report you and anyone else who steals money from musicians hands.

Cheap people like you make the whole industry go downhill!

You can't. If that was the case then over half of the United States would be in lots of trouble, even minors.
