On the contrary, there would be years of arguing and little negotiation. Both parties are so polarized right now there would never be a consensus between a left and right President. The best scenario is the one we are seeing now, one party controlling the Congress and one controlling the Executive. IN this case, it would be nice if the Executive branch had far, far, far different leadership.

No, the separation of powers is a complex and fragile puzzle... a work of art really.
Adding a second Executive would throw everything out of wack. Are they co-equals, or is their authority split amongst different spheres and departments? Either way, I think that this would be like the proconsuls of the Roman Empire and not work.
I think the divisions in American ideology are largely driven from the top-down. I don't think most people feel the hate and anger for eachother that the media would have us believe.
