Bettas originated in Cambodia, in tiny pools of water. They do not care for heavy water disturbance.
Also, if you are thinking of buying all males; in the same tank, please don't! They tend to fight until death.
I also recommend water conditioners, freeze dried blood worms ( fish love those! ), and clean water.
Have fun with your bettas!
I've had two.

Are you getting male bettas or female bettas? If they are male, they must be housed seperately or they will kill eachother. If they are female, they may live together in some cases. Expect some fighting for a while when you first get the females because they are establishing a pecking order. If they continue to fight, use your judgement and remove before severe injury or death.
Males tend to like calmer water because they have longer tails which make it harder for them to fight the current and build bubble nests which may be swept away by the filter's force. Females should be fine with the filter but it is not necessary.
In both cases, keep a tight lid/top on the tank(s) because both sexes jump. Also, if you're keeping a new community of females, keep a bottle of Melafix (or something similar) handy to repair nipped fins. Is your tank cycled already? This is necessary for the wellbeing of any fish in a new tank. http://fins.actwin.com/mirror/begin-cycling.html

Bettas will fight to the death, so I suggest only getting one, unless you're a terrible person and want to see fish die.
Sometimes bettas do hate disturbances in the water, but if you keep the water level high there should be little disturbances, but not many.

Betta can survive with a filter but don't like a strong current. Get a weak filter and provide lots of hiding room. Oh yeah, and you can't have more than one betta at a time or they'll kill each other.

Male betas cannot be mixed with other male betas.. And, they can be aggressive to females and other types of fish, particularly those with large tails and fins. It is best to put a male beta in a community tank with some medium sized swordtails, black mollys or zebra fish.

mine and my friends actually get upset if we turn off the filter, mine likes to chase the bubbles and his likes to puts it butt on the bubbles, (his name is now bubbles), i think it all depends on the fish, each one has a different personality
