The new belt provided by Sears Parts Center is much skinnier and whines while it moves the drum. It does the job but it has a whine to it that my old one didnt. The old belt was getting worn after 18 years of operation. Was cracking and ready to break. Any suggestions? Can I find a belt that would work that would be the width of my old belt? Will the whining calm down after a while? I put some bees wax on it a little to calm the sound. Helps a little.

It doesn't sound like you have the right belt. Being smaller, it doesn't have as much surface contact with the drum and so less "grab". But you never know with sears.
And remove the wax, you don't need it to move freely.

Wrong size belt. The noise comes from the pulley wheels and motor pully because belt is slipping.
Tell sears to exchange the belt for proper size and quit jerking you around.

Never put any lube on a belt, it will make it slip and wear out.
Try Graingers, they have more belts than I've ever seen. Give them the dimensions, and they should be able to match it up.
