I don't believe you can. I am a smoker ( wish l wasn't though ) and my husband is not anymore. He has great willpower, unfortunately l am lacking in that department. He has to really want to give up for himself or he will not. I know what it does to your body and wish l had never started but it is just a really bad addiction that is hard to break. I know as l have tried unsuccessfully a couple of times. I will try again soon though and hopefully will succeed. Merry Xmas.

You can't - it has to be his decision.

I gave my husband an ultimatum (which is normally not a good idea) - He was 39 years old and almost died from a heart issue. He was in the ICU hooked up to machines and breathing tubes and I was terrified.

His doctor said smoking was harming his heart.

As soon as he could talk I told him it was me or the cigarettes because I couldn't go through that again. I wasn't going to watch him self-destruct.

He quit. It wasn't easy, but he did. I think the doctor, me and his mother all contributed to his decision. And he was over the worse of the nicotine jitters when he was finally released.

Good Luck.

You can't - it is something that he has to do. No amount of crying, begging etc. will work until he wants to quit. No amount of telling him his breath stinks like an ashtray, your house smells, his clothes smell etc. will work, In the meantime he is causing health problems for you, your children, grand children or anyone else subjected to his second hand smoke. Admittedly the tobacco companies have spent lots of time and chemicals to make him addicted so he has a tough road. He can do it via hypnotism, faith, etc. lots of drugs out there now to help. Take him to a respitory clinic and show him all the people living with oxygen tanks etc. Good luck it needs to be done.

Take him to see the traveling show called "The Body Works".

Its is a lot of real body's that are cut up and preserved. It shows what smoking does to the lungs.

I never went to see it, but I heard allll about it.

Ask him if he loves you!!!! Then say, if you really mean it and really do love me then you would not want to jeopardize my health, and kill yourself by smoking.

Cry and tell him how much you love him, and that you want to grow old with him, not bury him.
