The safemode admin is also passworded, and nothing that could potentially screw up the computer. I need to get onto my son's computer and he is somewhat more computer savvy than I. Please Help

Nick

Sorry but there is no way without the Admin password. You would have to reinstall the OS in order to override it.
Now if you want to look at the files you could (if its a desktop) remove the hard drive and put it into anther pc and look that way. I am guessing you suspect him of some wrong doing. Otherwise just ask him for it.

Sheez... any good computer shop can hack into an XP box for a forgotten/lost administrative password. There are several ways to do so. Typically you boot from a CD or floppy, or use a program specifically designed for this. The process is actually pretty straightforward.

However, this question is asked all the time by people wanting access to someone else's computer and there's no way I can tell if your reasons are legitimate or not. So, I won't answer your question online.

Either be the adult in your relationship with your son, and insist on having administrative rights on "his" machine, or take it to a reputable shop and have them crack it for you.

Nice to see that he's concerned about his privacy.
Maybe you should put the same effort in TALKING to your son instead of interrogating him. Kids are going to do a lot of weird things, expect it. It's the parents job to EXPLAIN life to the as it happens and not jump on their case when they "bend the rules". It's ok to test, let him. Just take what he has to say and talk him thru anything that's bad for him. Explain "cause and effect". You'll be surprised when he gets the confidence from you as a source of information instead a source of punishment.

Sorry but you have no way of getting into it, and removing the hardrive is the only way to do it, but its a task not worth tackling. Your best bet is talking to your son. I'm going to assume he was doing something unapproved, and has blocked you out. Simply talk to your son. If necessary, provide punishments removing certain privilages. If not, it's up to you.
