An A cup is one inch of tissue out from your rib cage, B is two inches, C is three inches, D is four inches and DD is five inches. So, you take your measurements under your breasts, and add three inches, and that's the number for the bra size. If it's an odd number, round up. Then, measure around your breasts, and however much more it is, that's your cup size. So, if under your breasts it's 32" and on your breasts you measure 38" -- you start with 32" and add three inches and it's 35" and you round up to an even number and it's 36" and then 38-36 = 2" so you would be a 36 B.
Hope that helps.

Well I'm a guy, but I like women's breasts and have bought lots of bras for my wife. Cup size refers to the volume of the breast itself. Say you have a bra that is 34 C. The number, band size, is the approximate circumference of the ribcage. The letter, cup size, is the size of the cup. To know your correct bra size measure below the breasts. Band sizes come in even numbers so if you measure 33" to 34 3/4" round it up or down to 34. 35" inches should be rounded up to 36, etc. Once you know your band size take the measurement of your bust over the largest part of your breasts for the cup size. Let's stick with 34, my wife's band size, because this method of calculating applies to all bras regardless of the band size. If the difference in the first measurement is one inch or less the cup size is A. If it is two inches it is a B cup. Three inches is a C cup, four inches equals a D and five inches difference would be DD.

A women's magazine, which I will not name, once published an article which compared A cup to a lemon, B to an orange, C to a grapefruit, D to a canteloupe. They left out DD, but that is the one that fits nicely on top of my head!

Hope I helped.
