I buy most of my cars wrecked from the local junk yard, and rebuild them. Usually I end up with a 3-5 year old low mileage car for less than 50% of book value.

I prefer to use a tire gage to check the pressure (that's supposed to be the reason people kick the tires). Also, it puts you eye-level with the tires so you can check how much tread is left.

This started back when cars had wooden spoke wheels.It is for checking the bearings in the axles.It still works on smaller tires.
