During play directing today, one of my friends told one of the actors in her play to bring out the "good acting" he usually has. It made me wonder...what is a good actor? what makes an actor good?

A Good Actor
Can Take the Idea of a Writer or Story Teller and bring that character they are playing to life making the People watching, Believe that he or she is that person in the story at that time...

A great Actor Makes you feel Like your are part of the Story as you watch.... That you believe they are real, in the moment, you leave emotional... Happy, Sad, Laughing, Feel something different than when you went in and sat down...

Tuff job.... Good Luck....

Side note... Learning to act like is Hard
But if you can make anyone Believe what your saying is true is your 1st step, Bringing out the moments Emotion's EVEN if you don't feel that way is 2nd...

Becoming the person the writer describes in his script. No More - No Less. But you must be that person in a way that fits the place of the performance. ie on stage the actor must play the character larger than life in order to come across as real even to the people in the back row. For television and the movies the actor plays the roll a little differently in order to be perceived as real and natural.

An good actor or actress usually has natural talent and tons of heart! They are willing to do anything to pusue what they love, they have a way of bringing themselves into a character and bringing the character into themselves. Anybody can read lines off of a paper and memorize them but a good actor of actress lives the part and brings it to life.

A good actor has the ability to let everything go, knock down the walls they have built for protection from emotional pain and let their emotions fill out the traits of the character. Good actors have their emotions accessable for easy use. They are vulnerable and also need good stage persona, confidence, and good enunciation/projection skills. Happy Acting!

I think a great actor is an actor who makes you wonder if he or she really DID have an uncle who was killed in a car wreck last thursday, and wonder if they really DID walk to the mall every saturday to get ice cream cones. A great actor is able to slip into any persona at a moment's notice and carry it convincingly without it sounding contrived or forced.

I've got no experience in acting, but the actors and actresses I like don't seem like they're acting. It seems as if what they're doing is natural. It's not a role at all.

Acting is all about producing your image of the character you're trying to play. For example, two different people could have totally different ideas of how to act one character. Acting is only good when the character is completely and totally believable. You feel like you're watching the story as it unfolds, not the story being acted out.
Yeah......I like acting.

well the actor must embrace the role of the character and demonstrate that to the audience as something very believeable.

he/she must show "empathy" as opposed to "sympathy"

good acting is when you pretend you are sick for twenty-three days out of the school year. the bad part of that is nearly having to repeat the seventh grade over.
