yes, new their making a remake, the reason of the connection that boy throws him out of the car and is able to survive him at first meeting, also the hitcher was kind of setting up the boy , and playing of evil game with the kid bc the kid is smart, the boy finally gets strength to figure out the hitcher keeps coming so the boy was made to kill the hitcher, i like the line ur gun is empty u didnt check did u, well u gonna use the gun bc i am sure as **** going to use mine

i saw the movie (with C. Thomas Howell and Rutger Hauer, right?).

it's been awhile, but i thought that the "hitcher" didn't kill c. thomas howell's character because he thought it would be more fun to play with him (torment him) for a while before killing him, but i may be wrong, they might have had a connection other than c. thomas howell picking him up

As Guru' said.. to torment him. To get pleasure out of his fear.

Also I think he wanted an audience/witness for his crimes to make his murder's more satisfying for him. Just call me cracker. :p
