A number of things could cause this: overweight, underweight, recent weight loss or gain, improper diet, cancer in a female organ (cervix, ovaries, etc), fibrocystic tumors, endometriosis, hormone imbalances, and the list could go on and on forever.

If all the doctors want you on birth control, it's probably to balance out your hormones. Birth control acts like a simulated pregnancy for your body: it makes the hormone levels change accordingly and your body thinks it is pregnant, then when the week that the pill is a placebo your body forgets that it is pregnant and you have a period. In some people, over time this causes your body to balance out and be able to handle the hormones on its own and you won't have to rely on the birth control to do it for you. That's the point you will be able to get pregnant.

Please go to a reputable gynecologist and talk to them, then do what they say. They are telling you to do it for a reason, so don't ignore them! It may be a few more years until you can have a baby, but trust me, they want you to have a baby if that's what you want. It's the law of supply and demand: if they give you what you want, you are satisfied and will return, thus paying them more money. Plus, if you do get pregnant, you have to see them for checkups so they get more money that way too. Just try their suggestions and you'll be just fine.

I understand the worry and concern. Were you ever on the depo shot? That messed up my hormone balance for a long time. I wish you luck in having a baby. I have had 3 pregnancies and 2 darling babies even though I went without a period for more than 9 months! An ob/gyn can help you understand more about what is going on with your body. Menstruation is a different thing than ovulating. I remember asking my doctor if it was possible for me to get pregnant with such irregular peroids and she said that there are other medications similar to birth control pills that can help regulate your hormones and still allow you to have a baby.

A wide variety of factors can be responsible for amenorrhea (missed periods) like significant weight gain or loss, over-exercise, poor nutrition, smoking, drug use, caffeine, excessive alcohol use (interfering with how the liver metabolizes estrogen and progesterone), eating disorders, increased stress, polycystic ovarian syndrome/estrogen dominance, uterine abnormalities (fibroids/cysts/polyps/endometriosis), hormonal imbalance related to perimenopause, medications. Not having a period means that your not ovulating. Sometimes trying things like making healthy dietary modifications, especially decreased intake of refined carbohydrates, bridge nutritional gaps with a medical–grade multivitamin, including calcium, magnesium, and a fish oil supplement, get regular but moderate exercise (this may require increasing or decreasing your current level of exercise), and relieve stress through exercise and other relaxation techniques will help get your hormones on track and start ovulating again. Also topical progesterone cream can sometimes help jump-start your body back to regular cycling when you have a hormone imbalance. Certain types of birth control can make the amenorrhea worse. First thing is always get a second opinion. Get a pelvic exam to make sure you have no abnormalities. Secondly you may also want to request a hormone panel to test your GnRH, FSH, LH, estrogen, and prolactin levels.

Good luck!

Check for a pituitary tumor. It will disrupt your menstrual cycle, and make it almost impossible to get pregnant. You will have to have blood drawn, and they will check the hormone levels. If they're indicative of a pituitary tumor, you will have to get an MRI to check for sure. Other causes could be , fibroids, birth control usage, or polycystic ovary syndrome.

Thorough examination by a ob/gyn is called for to check everything is OK seems your hormones may be out of whack. My sister was a hemophiliac and she never had regular periods but she did have two daughters.

Are you at all overweight? Being overweight can cause your periods to stop. You should definitely see a doctor about this. No periods mean you are not ovulating which means you cant get pregnant.

there are some women who get an early menapause. Women in there late 20's and 30's can get menapause. You may want to check with a gyne and see what's going on.

Are you heavily dieting or working out too much? The same thing happened to my daughter, when she was severely limiting her calories, and working out too much.
