Probably you can't fix it on your own. You need to go to a sleep clinic, the sooner the better! I would guess that you have sleep apnea (and people who aren't overweight CAN have it). If you ignore it, sleep apnea can cause heart damage and even death, so it's nothing to just "put up with."

Sleep apnea is treated with the use of a CPAP machine, which is usually fully paid for by insurance. You can't just go out and buy one, as they have to be adjusted to your individual needs, and too much pressure is as bad as too little. This device cures snoring 100% and will also leave you less tired during the day. I would not take a half-hour nap without using mine!

Yes, going to a sleep clinic is inconvenient, and you'd really rather not bother, but your life may depend on getting prompt treatment. And your bed partner will be soooo happy when you don't snore anymore!

Definitly a sleep clinic is in order. The problem can have a number causes, weight certainly, loss of muscle tone in the mouth and throat, obstructed nasal passages among a host of others. But only an assesment at a professional sleep center can really determine if you have sleep apnea. It is well worth the trip. Sleep apnea can be life threatening to be sure but it can also destroy the quality of your sleep. And there is no way to overstate just how many things that can wreck. While the prospect of a surgury or having to wear some "odd aperatus" at night may sound uncool...the depression, irritability, and loss of cognitive abilities from the interruption of your REM sleep can deprive of of enjoying life at all. I have peers at work who swear by the change in the quality of their lives after treating this problem. Be well.
