What is the point of appealing a suspension in sports?

I heard 'Melo wasn't going to appeal his suspension. What are the pros and cons of that decision. Also, anyone else too excited about fantasy baseball? I know it is a long time away, but I can't wait!!!!!

Because in basketball you appeal to the same person that gave you the suspension - David Stern!!! In baseball it goes to an independent mediator. Most of the time it's reduced, sometimes to "time already served". Stern is never going to admit Stern was wrong.

none at alll you risk nothing..my feeling is if appeal and LOOSE ..the fine should even be greater
