Something is probably off with your water chemistry, but he sounds too far gone to really try to save (Sorry). I would just make sure to provide extra aeration in the tank.

Sounds like cancer, thats what my fish did, a lump grew on his head, and he died a week later. Might be due to the chlorine/floride in the water, make sure the water is treated with all the chemicals to stop them being poisoned etc. Also, the vibrations from a water pump can stress them out, try moving it, or investing in a low noise pump. Also, dont forget to switch the light out at night so they can sleep.

Check the pH in the water and make sure there is a supply of oxygen. Also make sure the temperature isn't too hot or cold. Unfortunately unless you work fast, by the time he's staying at the bottom, it may be too late.

It could be many things. Lack of oxygen in the water. Or he is sleeping, fish also sleep or even hibernate if the water is cold. If the fish is alone he could be bored not having companions and being force to live in an aquarium.

It is not getting enough oxygen, I have had fish for years and they do that when they are ready to die, I do not like gold fish bowls they are cruel and really you should have them in a proper tank or outside in a pond. they are of the carp family and will grow immense if you allow them to.did you know they can grow to 2-3 feet if you allow them the room.

Its tired. I had a fish named Star and he would lay at the bottom of the Bowl ALL DAY LONG! So then a few days later, he died. Be cautious... He/she may die soon.

if you are going to kill it DO NOT PUT IT IN FREEZING OR COLD WATER . this is not the right way to do it . give it a sharp knock on the back of its head just behind its gills and this will kill it instantly
