Needs a rebuild. This for a wholesale person is $700. Retail is more. The low gas mileage is that the overdrive is out and the engine is reving higher rpms

In the age old technique of actual diagnosis-is it a connection on the transmission thats loose(no cost to fix) or is it a transmission failure? Please check the easy stuff first instead of getting caught up in throwing parts at a problem.

JUST A GUESS, IT MAY MEAN THE TCC OR TORQUE CONVERTER LOCK UP SOLENOID, A SLIPPING OR NON-LOCKED CONVERTER WILL CAUSE YOUR CAR TO USE MORE FUEL.........
