Your chances of getting what you want are pretty slim! Banks don't hire imaginative people on purpose, so your money will be safe--but the downside is that they are generally afraid to think outside the box. Any non-standard request is viewed like a turd in a punch bowl, and their responses will reflect that. Hope you didn't need it too much.

The bank has everything on file. The easiest way is for them to know the exact amount and around what day it was written on. It might not have been cashed right away but the exact amount of the check is what they will look for in their records. The check number will only tell you what that check amount was for $$ and maybe it isn't the check you were looking for. The banks employees see alot on the computers you just have to ask the right questions.

Most likely they can find it assuming you know the dollar amount and a good idea of when the check cleared...If your bank's systems are seriously outdated or they aren't real service oriented, you may have to first order a copy of your statement for the period(s) in which you believe the check most likely cleared and then screen the statement to find the correct check number....then order the copy.

yes they can search on the amount and or the date of the check. call them and tell them the amount of the canceled check and they should be able to find it. they may charge a fee if the check is older than 1 year old.
