You can't. Mine do the same thing. When you get your hands wet, it replaces moisture in the fingertips that the calluses suck out. It takes about an hour for your skin to completly dry out so that's why they come back.

If you are going to play less than an hour after getting out of the shower, I would recommend using rubbing alcohol. Rub a little on each finger and it should dry out the moisture and bring the calluses back to their pre-shower state without damaging your skin. If you are playing more than an hour after getting out of the shower, don't worry about it, it's temporary.

I'm not sure this will help but my uncle (who is a guitar player) used to do this. Try playing while the calluses are soft. This helps toughen them up and make them last longer. Hope this helps! : )

I made the mistake of biting the early callouses. Not a good thing. Just keep on practicing. Are you practicing the major scale?

actually, having strong callusses on your fingertips isn't as important as strengthening the muscles in your fingers and forearm. having weak fretting muscles will negatively affect your playing more than having soft fingertips.

They gradually callass over. They will peel off pretty much every time, and that is how you know they are getting tougher. Good Luck.
