Last Christmas I got a 30 gallon tank and got some small Oscars. One Tiger and one Albino. It has been about a year and my Oscars are huge! About 7 inches and all they do is eat, and eat, and eat some more large gold fish.... I didn't realize how big, how much they would eat, and how dirty the tank gets. I think I want to start over and get all new smaller non carnavore fish. What is the best way to get rid of my Oscars?? Besides selling them cuz I know I won't get very much for them.

You might want to donate them to a school for Biology class. :)

Well, you really answered your own question, friend. Your best bet is to sell them. Aside from flushing them down the toilet, which is indeed cruel (and no, they don't just go to the river or ocean), you are either stuck with your lovely Oscars, or you can, again, sell them.
Or....
Do you have a niece or a nephew who wouldn't mind receiving a fish as a little gift? Or perhaps you could put a FREE add in your local penny-saver for 'free Oscars to a good home.'
You only have a few options here buddy. The best of luck to you and Merry Christmas!!! :)

PS. Ahhh, the gentleman who recommended you donate them to a school has a nice idea. He says for a Biology class. They will surely get cut up to wee little pieces (hey that's life). Or you may consider an elementary school as a kindergarten class pet.

I just got rid of a couple myself. A Tiger and a Red Oscar. Your right, it's amazing how fast and large they grow. I was lucky, my neighbor took them. Depending on how bad you want to get rid of them, try giving them away or place an add in the local paper and say best offer takes them. If you get no offers, offer them for free.

You might not get much for them but you'll get more if you sell them than if you give them away or kill them and if someone is willing to pay for them you know they're likely to have a good home. My suggestion to you learn from your mistake and next time do a little more research before you buy a pet.

You need to fill a container full of water.

Cold water, if it is cold water fish and warm water if it is a warm water fish (I do not know how hot or cold).
Salt may be needed in some, but I do not know how much but some will die in salt.
You will need this to give this fish to someone else who as a fish tank, such a neighbour or a friend.

This means you will not be killing it.

We have a bar in midland called Oscars and they have oscars in thier tanks.... in all reality if you just want to get rid of the fish it doesn't matter how much you get for them. The profit will be better than the expense of taking care of them.... or maybe you should just flush them down the toilet.... LOL

next time research the fish you buy... i suggest goldfish.

You can call a pet store and ask them. They might take them off your hands for a display or to re-sell. Even ask them if they will trade you for a smaller carnivorous fish.
You never know unless you ask. Try a small family run shop if you can find one.

There is a certain blowfish named Vinny, who, for a fee, can "get rid" of your Oscars

You'll never get rid of Oscars because Hollywood loves to pat itself on the back, same as Golden Globes, Viewers Choice, blah blah blah. Everyone's on a red carpet, wow. Bunch of overpriced media whores. I'd rather watch a movie with a bunch of unknown actors then the so-called big stars, who have to constantly see themselves in the tabloids, and wah wah, please make the papparazzi go away, wah.
