and today is my 50th birthday, should all the candles on my cake be lit or would that be considered a fire hazzard.

Light 1 every half hour and then have you and your partner light the last 4 on the start of the 24th hour. Then make a wish when you blow them out at 23:59.

happy birthday! technically you are not actually a full 50 years old until the exact time of day that you were born...but whatever, fire them up and have a blast :) im sure it will look all pretty and cozy, just keep a watchful eye on them and try not to get too much molten wax in your cake! congrats :)
