For upgradability, you would want to stick to the Dell XPS, while the HP one may be cheaper initially, the Dell's are typically upgradable with newer video cards..etc. They're tech support is a bit better as well, I have an Inspiron 9200 which has a 128MB Radeon 9700 Mobility, and I was playing all the newest games (until my brother broke my screen) but before that I had a motherboard problem I had set it on a steel table and static killed it, and other than the misunderstanding, I had it back in less than a week. Working perfect.

Well i would have to say as of late hp has gotten much better. Dell has been trying to ride out the good name they used to have while selling inferior computers. So currently hp is probably the better choice of the two.
As for the macbook answer. Yes macs are very good and less vulnerable to attacks. But the macbook does have wireless issues. For a gamer that can become a problem.

in my opinion read what people have to say about dell, ring up their after sales see how long it takes for them to answer you, if your going to buy a computer,,,, best to buy it from a small store near to you,,, that way if you have problems you can take it back to them and have your problems sorted out quick

In MY opinion laptops are to small for gaming, in part due to screen size. (Also keys to small for my fat fingers on most of them!!)

ALSO, they are almost 50% more expensive than a similarly capable PC.
