My daughter is a 6th grader and she recently did a project that took her to LBUSD's City Wide Science Fair
Explanation:
She had 6 ice cubes....she used different substances like water, vinegar, rubbing alcohol, water, hot peppers, salt, etc.
Then she timed it and was looking for which substance was going to be able to make ice melt the fastest.
The materials she used were
bowls
ice
a timer
a camera
substances above ^
I am not going to tell the answer because it is the 6th grader that needs to find out

You have to use the Scientific Method. Go to:
www.energquest.ca.gov/projects/index.html
It has a TON of Science projects. May I suggest "Light By Friction."

Grow mold in the refrigerator. Use cheese or bread or whatever. Put it in a container or plastic bag with the date and add water or open it up to the air and document each day and process. You would be surprised how fast mold will grow and what it looks like at different stages.

It is neat if you have the materials to demonstrate a fulcrum. It will show how much work can be done by leverage. How a 100 lb girl can lift 200 lbs with one arm.
